Investments
Gravitation open for application
The aim of the Gravitation Programme is to identify and boost consortia with an excellent scientific research programme that have the potential to make a substantial scientific contribution at the highest international level. It is expected that the researchers involved currently operate at the highest national level and are already active at the highest international level.
Investment Subsidy NWO Large
Subsidies for investments larger than 1,000,000 (GW or MaGW) or 1,500,000 euro (other Divisions).
Investment Subsidy NWO Medium
Cross-divisional applications
NWO has a subsidy for investments with an NWO contribution of between 110,000 and 1,000,000 or 1,500,000 euro (Investment Subsidy NWO Medium).

Integrated Programmes
Free Competition of WOTRO Science for Global Development
The Integrated Programme scheme is aimed at supporting excellent problem-oriented interdisciplinary research to the benefit of development and societal issues in the South. An IP may address developmental and societal issues: in a broad sense that may lead to new insights, theories and/or breakthroughs in current knowledge and understanding or fitting within one or more of four themes of WOTRO’s framework: (A) Poverty and Hunger; (B) Sustainable Environment (C) Global Relationships.

Cooperation China (CSC) - Talent and Training (TTChina)
The aim of the programme is to increase the quality and quantity of PhD research in the Netherlands and to strengthen scientific cooperation with China, by inviting highly talented Chinese PhD candidates to conduct research at selected Dutch graduate schools.

Cooperation Germany - von Humboldt Stiftung (VHS) continuous application
VHS makes two research prizes available each year to enable Dutch senior researchers to conduct their own research for a period of between 4 and 12 months at a German research institute, while NWO offers the same opportunity for two German senior researchers to conduct their own research in the Netherlands.
Doctoral Grant for Teachers open for application
The aim of Doctoral Research for Teachers is to increase the number of teachers holding a doctorate, as this will help to boost the quality of education provided. The programme is open to teachers from primary, secondary, vocational, higher and special education.
Graduate Programme
Inter-university or local graduate schools can apply for a blockgrant of k€ 800 to appoint PhD students. The Graduate Programme aims to strengthen the Dutch PhD system by stimulating the incorporation of elements of the American Graduate School system.
Mosaic
Interested persons have the opportunity to apply at NWO until 31 January 2012 by submitting a brief research idea. When selected the candidates will write a full project proposal. They will attend two workshops to support their work.

Conflict and Cooperation over Natural Resources in Developing Countries (CoCooN) - Integrated Projects
The CoCooN programme aims to contribute to sustainable development, poverty reduction and the realisation of the MDGs by adding to evidence-based policy development, interventions and practices in the field of conflict and cooperation on natural resources, and by contributing to adequately manage, resolve and learn from conflicts.

Conflict and Security - Fast Track
More diversified societies are the result of globalization, international migration and mobility. This leads to the spreading and intensification of conflicts related to cultural, ethnic, religious, class and gender differences. Research within the scope of the strategic theme of Conflict and Security is aimed at addressing these urgent societal issues.
Cooperation China - Joint Scientific Thematic Research Programme (JSTP) open for application
JSTP aims at stimulating sustainable research collaboration between China and the Netherlands by funding joint research projects and thematic dialogue seminars. The 2009 call for proposals addresses the research topic ‘Integrated Water Management in relation with climate change and sea level rise’.
Cooperation Indonesia - Agriculture Beyond Food
The programme Agriculture beyond Food (AbF) aims to enhance and support long-term scientific cooperation between research groups from Indonesia and the Netherlands on innovative use of bio-based resources.
Cultural Dynamics
In this programme, culture is defined in the broadest sense of the word to cover both material and non-material aspects. Examples are architecture, expressive arts, theatre, music, new cultural expressions that have been made possible by the new media and technology, but also the customs and rituals that are culturally determined.
East Kalimantan
Aims to enhance and support long-term scientific cooperation in coastal zone research between research groups from Indonesia and the Netherlands. The geographical focus is on the coastal areas of the Mahakam delta and the Berau region.
Joint MFS II evaluations open for application
The overall purpose of the joint MFS II evaluations is to account for results of MFS II-funded or cofunded development interventions implemented by Dutch CFAs and/or their Southern partners and to contribute to the improvement of future development interventions.
Migration, Development and Conflict open for application
The research is expected to focus on transnational flows and their consequences by comparing the multifaceted interactions of the positive and negative dimensions of transnational migration in the Netherlands, India and South Africa.
NACCAP (EDCTP) - Co-funding
NACCAP is a development orientated support and research programme, financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. NACCAP is a Dutch National Programme contributing to the goal and objectives of the European Developing Countries Clinical Trial Partnership (EDCTP). NACCAP´s activities include open calls, commissioned projects, support activities and co-funding.

Population, Reproductive Health and Economic Development open for application
The research programme PopDev focuses on strengthening the evidence-base for policy and practice and identifying ways forward in research on how population and reproductive health impact poverty and economic growth.

Responsible Innovation
The theme programme Responsible Innovation (MVI) concerns issues related to technological developments for which there is a good reason to suspect that these will have major positive and negative effects on individuals and/or society.
Social Science Cooperation India-Netherlands
The Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR) and NWO have started a joint Scholar Exchange scheme aimed at staff with an academic or research appointment, up to senior professors.
Sustainable Hydrogen - Valorisation Grant
Over the next decades, mankind will have to switch from fossile to sustainable energy sources. All scenarios for sustainable energy require a universal and clean energy carrier. Hydrogen is the best option.

Het doel van dit fonds is bewustwording van Open Access bevorderen en stimuleren van Open Access-publiceren van resultaten uit NWO-projecten.
Seminars and congresses
Cooperation Taiwan (NSC) continuous application
NWO has a cooperation agreement with the National Science Council of Taiwan (NSC), which offers Dutch researchers a chance to do research in Taiwan. Taiwanese researchers can visit the Netherlands. The programme also facilitates joint seminars in Taiwan or the Netherlands.
Travel and accomodation grants
Cooperation China (NSFC) open for application
The NSFC-NWO Programme aims at fostering research collaborations of Sino-Dutch research teams that share high ambitions to work together in sustainable joint research projects by providing multi-annual research funding, and by calling for proposals demonstrating complementary expertise between Dutch and Chinese research teams in areas, in which both The Netherlands and China excel. Thematic Calls for Proposals are published annually, featuring different thematic priorities each year. The 2012 Call for Proposals addresses the research topic 'The Application of Operations Research in Urban Transport'.
Cooperation Japan (JSPS) continuous application
NWO has a cooperation agreement with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), which provides various opportunities for doing research in Japan.
Cooperation South Korea (NRF-KOSEF) continuous application
NWO has a cooperation agreement with the Korea Science and Engineering Foundation (KOSEF), which offers Dutch researchers a chance to perform research in South Korea. In case of a jointly organised seminar applications can be submitted for a contribution towards the costs.
Visitors Travel Grant continuous application
With this grant foreign visitors can stay in the Netherlands.
