NWO has a cooperation agreement with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), which provides various opportunities for doing research in Japan and for joint seminars.
The aim of this cooperation programme is to promote contact between Dutch and Japanese researchers.
Who can apply
Dutch researchers with a PhD degree.
What can be applied for
International travel costs, local travel costs and accommodation costs and, in some cases, the costs of health insurance. For a bilateral joint seminar a contribution to the costs can be requested.
When can be applied
- Applications can be submitted continuously. Decisions on an application take maximum 6 - 8 months.
Extra Information
Grants can be applied for in the following cases:
- Scientist exchange - Short term (2 weeks to 2 months) in Japan
- Scientist exchange - Long term (6 to 12 months) in Japan
- Contribution to the cost of Bilateral Joint Seminars in Japan or Netherlands
- Invitation fellowship Short term (2 weeks to 2 months) in Japan
- Postdoctoral fellowships for Foreign Researchers (12 to 24 months) to a Japanese research institute

Criteria
Important selection criteria are:
- scientific quality, originality and relevance;
- quality of the research team;
- feasibility;
- urgency.

Assessment will take place through peer review.

Applications will be financed from the budget 2012 for visitors travel grants of 370.000 euro.
